Juniors

We are particularly proud of our Juniors at Western Suburbs and the development pathway offered to players, coaches and referees.

Nearly 500 footballers represent the club in more than 30 teams competing in Capital Football grades from 7th to 14th. Our Academy programmes offer additional coaching to develop our promising young stars.

As a result of the coaching and players hard work, many Western Suburbs players have been selected for Capital Football Regional and Federation Talents Centres and NZ Football National Talent Centres - a first step to U17 World Cups.

The club is especially proud to be named Capital Football “Junior Club of the Year” twice in the last three years.

New Zealand Football's Whole of Football Plan will continue to be supported at Western Suburbs.

New Zealand Football has developed guidelines and supporting material to help clubs deliver junior football programmes that are matched to the needs of young players. This set of guidelines is called the Junior Framework and is the first stage of Whole of Football Plan.

The Junior Framework ensures that every child entering the game will take part in training and games that are tailored to his or her stage of football development - physical, mental, emotional/social and technical/tactical. Drawing on proven football development programmes from around the world, the Junior Framework provides children with a fun and rewarding experience at every stage, while developing their skills as football players.

Below is a brief summary of how the Whole of Football plan will be adopted at Western Suburbs. Click on each heading for more details from Capital Football.
